Central Casting: Digital Registration

Project

Digitize the background talent registration process and enable background actors to manage their profile online.

Details

Central Casting is the leading provider of background actors for the entertainment industry in the US.

Registering to be a background actor used to require showing up in person, standing in line and filling out paper forms.

The final design is a responsive solution where:

  • Each step is separated into bite-sized chunks in a question- and-answer format

  • Minimum information is presented on each screen to facilitate user focus on each question

  • Larger font size for accessibility (since a significant number of background actors are aged 60+)

  • Users are guided through filling out employment forms I-9 and W-4

  • A user profile enables users to update employment information, skills, and props

Both desktop and mobile versions were tested throughout the process which allowed us to validate direction and uncover usability issues.

A large part of this work included facilitating communication between the CC media team and the Phoenix-based development team.

The first phase is live in California, New York, Georgia, and Louisiana.
