Internal consult on digitalizing Central Casting Talent Booking and Timecards

Central Casting is the leading provider of background actors for the entertainment industry in the US.

Central Casting product management and leadership wer excited about moving forward with a digital timecard solution. The goal was to realize efficiencies from existing manual processes and more seamlessly integrate with existing payroll software.

The general perception of most stakeholders was that the project was simple: take Entertainment Partners’ already existing timecard solution for production workers and add some minor customization so it could be used by background actors.

Through research EP UX found that while digitizing the timecard itself was fairly straight-forward, the role the physical timecard played within the overall workflow was far more involved and would require careful consideration to be successful for both users and the business.

I presented a deck of high-level mockups, process maps, and proposals to the development, product, and executive teams to help in the decision-making process around resourcing and effort.

Specifically, these artifacts:

• Assisted the dev team in determining software architecture in order to accommodate both business and user needs

• Assisted the product team and executives to understand the different components of the system requiring attention beyond just the timecard itself

• identified pieces of the production workflow that no team had committed to that was key to the success of the long-term goals of the project

• Helped the executive team evaluate time to market relative to the competition

This work helped inform strategy revisions at the executive level, drove changes to the product roadmap, and likely saved users from a poorly integrated solution.
